Lessons learned when Healthy Apple blogger Amie Valpone connected with fellow female bloggers…
I was recently invited by my good friend, Sarah Brokaw, to watch her with a panel of other incredible women speak at 92nd Street Y here in Manhattan.
Sarah was joined by one of my dear friends and role models, Elisa Camahort Page, COO and co-founder of BlogHer. I was also thrilled to see fellow food blogger pal, Ree Drummond from The Pioneer Woman Cooks, whom I met last year at BlogHer Food in San Francisco. Joining them were Kathryn Finney, the go-to girl on all things budget fashion, Karen Amster-Young and Pam Godwin from 52weeks.com. These outstanding bloggers and authors talked about their strategies and how they maximized their incredible brands to success.

This panel named “Top Author & Women of the Web Share Stories” focused on the risks and rewards women face when forging new paths in their careers. I, for one, read Sarah Brokaw’s book, Fortytude, last summer and it truly changed my life. (I’m not just saying that because we are friends — I truly could relate to this book and every word she wrote).

Each of these five talented women spoke so passionately about life and finding our true passions to do what inspires us; not to follow someone else’s dream. Each woman spoke about her role in the media via her book and blog about common threads of self-expression, challenging themselves and passing along the knowledge and wisdom they picked along the way via colleagues, conferences and networking.

A beautiful cocktail reception and meet ‘n’ greet with the panelists followed the program, which was an intimate way for the audience to connect with each speaker. Overall, the event was incredible and I was honored to be a part of such a wonderful night where some dear friends spoke about their beautiful successes and career paths.
